In the case of the death of an 85-year-old woman in Nabari City, Mie Prefecture in April, an 86-year-old husband was rearrested on May 12 for assaulting her to death.

Suspect Tsutomu Takashima (86), an unemployed man from Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, who was rearrested, is suspected of assaulting his wife Miyoko (85), who lives with him, by hitting her on the head between April 20 and 22, causing her death from traumatic shock.

Miyoko was found collapsed in the kitchen on April 22, and Takashima was arrested on suspicion of assaulting Miyoko about a week earlier, and stated that he "hit her because she was late getting ready to go to day care."

Police say that the results of a subsequent autopsy confirmed the causal relationship between the assault just before his arrest and the death, but Takashima denies the charges, saying, "I don't remember well."
